The Glance

Late last night while drinking a coffee, I saw a woman driving an old Ford Crown Victoria. Tied to the roof were two (2) orange matresses. Looking at me, she pitched her filtered cigarette out the window crack of her moving car. She was sporting a mullett.

Shit your Pants

Engine problems

Fuel pump letting go in flight. Third occurrence in 4 years time.

Probable cause: Hydraulic lock at high engine speed, causing drive shaft to shear. Poor driveshaft design requiring re-design of the pump.
Possible cure: Cleaning of fuel nozzles and fuel flow analysis of the Right Engine.

Tire Wear

Airplane coming back from a weekend of flying with most of its plies showing through the tread.
Maybe four landings before a blow-out.

Cause: Flat spot taking repetitive landings, heavy braking.
Cure: Ground aircraft when the first tire ply starts to show signs of it's first appearance, or replace the tire when a flat spot gets bad.

Bicycle Polo on a Short Notice

The weather was perfect

Clear sky
18˚ C
Visibility: 24 km
Wind: W 15 km/h

Polo went well with the good bike. I took more spills and dabbed more often, notwithstanding the added speed and mechanical efficiently gained by dependable components. The fenders were removed for less friction. There was a longing however, for The Death Bike or my Rollfast Cruiser. I got to play a least 10 matches. Six of us were out and I was able to hand out a few pops. PSHhht.
A rookie came out today. Way to go new guy, spectacular!

This holiday is my favorite one because nobody expects very much of you. If you do happen to deliver, everyone is "thankful", therefore buffeting the meaning behind the day.

Out on the court, it felt good to be amongst people in the same frame of mind. It was a good day to be alive and on a bike. I'm sure that what anybody can ever hope for.

Keep your nostrils full of air. (Keep your nose clean)

Thanksgiving how's about that.

To Frank, a friend to all...

We spent most of the day outdoors enjoying the Gatineau Hills. A family hike through the populated woods. Le domaine Mackenzie was where I found out that Frank Plummer had passed away. Mag ran into a co-worker who proceeded to tell me about the tragedy.
Evidently, I missed the funeral; so I spent the day thinking about him in my own way. I started to remember things I had not thought about for a long time. Frank and I had worked together as couriers for a brief stint in '01.
Recently fired from my last job and with a home-made mail bag over my shoulder, I was a real greenhorn. The training wheels had not been off my bike for too long. After a few days of work I was starting to meet my fellow bike messengers. Frank was one of the first, and most memorable people I had the pleasure of meeting through the profession.
He was a man who was sure of himself and did things his way, which worked quite well apparently. My last day of work for that company was during the G12 Summit. I refused to wear the company uniform and went on to my last drop for the day. Frank did not like the uniforms either and he understood my leaving the company. We would often cross paths on Bank street or at the Canadian Tire on Kent street (before it closed, much to our chagrin).
I was inspired by the man. Frank was an example of a truly joyful and versatile individual. He took pride in his work and valued his friendships. I will always remember his somewhat scathing sense of humor and his ability to keep me laughing for so long that I would bust up and require stiches. I will surely miss him. My thoughts are with his family.

Love and respect to you all.
